Chevrolet continues the Tahoe’s latest generation with more features and the latest driver-assist technologies. These upgrades for the 2022 version of Chevy’s largest model include standard safety gear like lane-departure warning and parking sensors and the Buckle to Drive system, which prevents the transmission from being shifted into drive until the driver’s seatbelt is fastened. A freshly designed digital instrument cluster also presents useful vehicle information where the driver can easily see it. Chevrolet has also added an Off-Road Capability Package as an option for the Z71 trim.

Trims and Powertrains

The three-row 2022 Tahoe comes in six trim levels: LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. A 5.3-liter V8 engine making 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque is standard on all trims up to the Premier. A 6.2-liter V8 that produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque is standard on the High Country and available on the RST, Z71, and Premier. All trims except the Z71 can be equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel-burning six-cylinder engine (277 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque). Rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard on all but the Z71, which gets standard four-wheel drive (it’s optional on the other trims). A ten-speed automatic is the rule across the lineup, and the maximum towing capacity is 8,000 pounds.

The EPA-estimated fuel economy for the Tahoe (RWD or 4WD) with the 5.3-liter engine is 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. The larger gas engine’s rating is 14 mpg around town (RWD or 4WD) and 20 mpg on the highway (19 with 4WD). For the diesel, an RWD-equipped 2022 Tahoe is estimated to return 21 city/28 highway, which changes to 20 city/26 highway with 4WD.

Standard Features and Options

The standard equipment for the base LS includes LED exterior lighting with automatic high beams, sound-reducing glass, rear privacy glass, front and rear parking sensors, keyless entry, push-button start, a 4.2-inch driver information display, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, tri-zone automatic climate control with separate A/C for the rear seats, and 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels. This trim can only be ordered with a front-row bench seat for nine-passenger seating (three people per row).

The LT adds a hands-free tailgate, a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, leather seats (the front row seats are heated and power-adjustable 10 ways), a driver’s seat memory system, wireless device charging, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The RST is equipped similarly but gets a unique front-end treatment, black exterior accents, 22-inch alloy wheels, and perforated leather upholstery with contrast stitching. For a more off-road capable Tahoe, the Z71 starts with the LT’s features and adds an exclusive front end designed for a better approach angle, plus a front skid plate, all-terrain tires, hill descent control, and front recovery hooks. The Z71’s available Off-Road Capability Package adds magnetic ride control, the Adaptive Air Ride suspension, and an electronic limited-slip differential.

One major option for the LT, RST, and Z71 is the Luxury Package, which adds a power tilt and telescopic steering wheel, second-row outboard heated seats, a heated steering wheel (subject to availability), power-folding second- and third-row bench seats, and other driver safety technology. These three trims can also be equipped with second-row captain’s chairs instead of the bench seat. A panoramic moonroof is available on the LT and higher trims.

The Premier gets the Luxury Package’s list of features as standard and adds 20-inch wheels, Magnetic Ride Control, heated and ventilated front seats, an upgraded driver’s memory system, and second-row captain’s chairs. Rounding out the 2022 Tahoe is the top-tier High Country and its 22-inch alloy wheels, unique exterior accents, head-up display, and surround-view monitor.

Advanced Safety Technologies

All Tahoes get forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and following distance indicator. Lane-change alert with side blind-zone alert and rear cross-traffic is optional on the LS, LT, RST, and Z71 and included on the Premier and High Country. Rear pedestrian alert is available on the LT and higher trims (and standard on the High Country). Reverse automatic braking is optional on the Premier and High Country, and the Safety Alert Seat is included on these two highest trims.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The infotainment system for the LS includes an 8-inch color touchscreen, a six-speaker audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth, six USB ports (two per row), and access to OnStar, Chevrolet Connected Services, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The LT and higher trims receive a 10.2-inch touchscreen and a nine-speaker Bose sound system, while the Premier and High Country get a 12-speaker Bose system.
