The Chevrolet Traverse rolls into 2022 exhibiting a lightly refreshed design and some new standard features. Specifically, it shows off a distinguished new front end and redesigned headlights, taillights, roof rails, and wheels. Power-folding heated side mirrors are now standard issue on the RS, Premier, and High Country trims, and every trim gets the Chevy Safety Assist suite, which includes automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane keeping assist with lane departure warning, a following distance indicator, forward collision alert, and automatic high beams. As an improvement for 2022, Chevy has expanded the standard equipment lists for most trims. The RS, Premier, and High Country also add rear pedestrian alert to their standard features this year; this technology is now optional on the LT Cloth as well. Not only that, but Chevy’s safety alert seat is newly standard in the High Country, while adaptive cruise control is included on the RS, Premier, and High Country and is optional on the LT Leather. Wireless smartphone integration (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay) is found on all trims, and the Premier and High Country get a new 8-inch driver information center.

Trims and Powertrains

The 2022 Chevy Traverse is a midsized three-row crossover that’s offered in six trim levels: LS, LT Cloth, LT Leather, RS, Premier, and High Country. The LS seats up to eight passengers, and while the LT Cloth and remaining trims can accommodate up to seven with their standard second-row captain’s chairs, the second-row bench is available on both LT trims to bump seating back to eight. It’s also worth mentioning that many of the high-end features listed in the sections below are available on the lower trims.

Under the hood of every ’22 Traverse is a 3.6-liter V6 that produces 310 hp and 266 lb.-ft. of torque. This powerplant is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission that sends power to either a front-wheel (standard) or all-wheel drivetrain (optional). With the trailer hitch that’s optional for all FWD trims (except for the base LS) and standard on the AWD Premier and High Country, the Traverse can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

Highlight Attributes

The well-equipped LS comes with LED headlights, heated side mirrors, keyless entry and push-button ignition, tri-zone automatic climate control, a drive mode selector, six USB ports (two in each row), 10 cupholders, a hidden cargo floor storage compartment, and a manual 60/40-split folding third-row bench seat. The features added to the LT Cloth are roof rails, turn-signal indicators for the side mirrors, a power driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a wireless phone charger; the LT Leather also gets a power liftgate, leather seats, a power front passenger’s seat, remote start, and a universal home remote.

The sportier RS has its own unique style with darkened 20-inch wheels, black exterior accents, and RS badging. It also gets power-folding side mirrors, perforated leather seats, and a 120-volt power outlet. The Premier turns up the luxury with chrome exterior accents, a hands-free liftgate, an auto-dimming driver’s side mirror, an 8-inch driver information display, memory settings (for the side mirrors, power steering column, and driver’s seat), and ventilated front seats. The High Country tops the range with a dual-panel sunroof and a powered third row. If you’re planning to load up the cargo area, every trim boasts a class-leading maximum cargo volume of 98.2 cubic feet.

Advanced Safety Technologies

Advanced safety features are abundant in the 2022 Traverse. The LS receives forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, a following distance indicator, automatic high beams, lane keeping assist, and lane departure warning. The LT Cloth and LT Leather add lane change alert with side blind-zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors, while the RS, Premier, and High Country come with enhanced automatic emergency braking, a surround-view camera system, rear pedestrian alert, and adaptive cruise control. What’s more, the High Country supplies a safety alert seat that pulses in the direction of a potential hazard. GM’s Buckle to Drive feature (which prevents shifting out of park until the seatbelts are fastened) and Teen Driver system (which encourages better habits for young drivers) are standard in every trim as well.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The LS and LT Cloth get Chevy’s Infotainment 3 System, which includes a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, voice recognition, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, and a six-speaker audio system. Starting at the LT Leather level, the infotainment setup is upgraded to Chevy’s Infotainment 3 Plus, which has an 8-inch touchscreen. Navigation is available on the LT Leather and standard on the RS, Premier, and High Country. Those three trims also get a premium 10-speaker Bose audio system.
