Trims and Powertrains

The 2023 Chevy Tahoe is a full-sized SUV with an equally large trim lineup consisting of the LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. The default engine is a 5.3-liter V8 making 355 hp and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. Available with the RST, Z71, and Premier and standard with the High Country is a 6.2-liter V8 producing 420 hp and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. A 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel (277 hp and 460 lb.-ft. of torque) is also offered for every trim except the Z71. All engines pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Although rear-wheel drive is standard with most trims, four-wheel drive (which is standard in the Z71) is optional. Buyers who plan to tow a sizeable trailer will be pleased to know that the ‘23 Tahoe with the Duramax turbo-diesel and RWD system can handle up to 8,200 pounds.

Fuel Economy

The RWD and 4WD Tahoe with the 5.3-liter V8 engine will return an EPA-estimated 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. Those with the 6.2-liter V8 and RWD achieve 14 city/20 highway, although that changes to 14 city/18 highway with 4WD. Tahoes with the Duramax are the most efficient, achieving 21 city/28 highway with RWD and 20 city/26 highway with 4WD.

Standard and Available Amenities

The LS kicks things off with heated side mirrors, roof rails, LED exterior lights, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry, remote ignition, tri-zone automatic climate control, three power outlets (one 12-volt and two 120-volt), two USB data ports (one Type-A and one Type-C), four USB charging ports (two Type-C in both the second and third rows), illuminated vanity mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, 60/40-split second- and third-row seats, and a cargo management system. The LT elevates the experience with a hands-free liftgate, heated and power-adjustable front seats, a 12-inch gauge cluster, position memory for the driver’s seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, leather upholstery, and a wireless phone charger.

The appearance-focused RST comes with larger wheels, black exterior trim, and perforated leather seats. The Z71 trades the perforated leather for regular leather and adds a two-speed transfer case, a heavy-duty air filter, hill descent control, a front skid plate, red tow hooks, all-terrain tires, black assist steps, and a front fascia with a high approach angle. The Premier returns the perforated leather seats but not the front skid plate, high-approach front fascia, or all-terrain tires. It does, however, get a dual exhaust system, magnetically controlled shock absorbers (Magnetic Ride Control), an auto-dimming driver’s-side mirror, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel and rear outboard seats, and power adjustments for the steering wheel, center console, and rear seats. At the top, the High Country is outfitted with a head-up display and a rear camera mirror with a built-in washer.

Active Safety Aids

All ‘23 Tahoes are equipped with the Chevy Safety Assist Package (automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, a following distance indicator, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, and automatic high beams). Also standard across the board are front and rear parking sensors, a front outboard passenger sensing system, and Teen Driver, which helps to reinforce good habits in young drivers. Lane change alert with side blind-zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, and a safety alert seat are added to the Premier and High Country, while the High Country alone gets enhanced automatic emergency braking, a surround-view camera, and rear pedestrian alert.

The ‘23 Tahoe is appointed with a high-end infotainment system, and it only gets better with each consecutive trim. The base LS has an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, voice recognition, a Wi-Fi hotspot, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a six-speaker sound system. The LS, RST, and Z71 move to a 10.2-inch touchscreen with built-in Google and a nine-speaker Bose audio system. A tip-top Bose audio system with 10 speakers and surround sound provides the ultimate listening experience in the Premier and High Country.

Packages and Individual Options

Chevrolet offers a number of optional bundles for those who order the 2023 Tahoe but want even more amenities. The Driver Alert Package (for the LS, LT, RST, and Z71) has lane change alert with side blind-zone alert and rear cross-traffic alert. The Luxury Package (for the LT, RST, and Z71) comes with the contents of the Driver Alert Package, plus a surround-view camera, rear pedestrian alert, position memory, heated and power-folding side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, a heated and power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, heated second-row outboard seats, and power-adjustable second- and third-row seats. In the RST, this package also contains adaptive cruise control and enhanced automatic emergency braking.

All trims are eligible for the Max Trailering Package, which bundles a trailer brake controller, hitch guidance with hitch view, an enhanced cooling radiator, and a two-speed transfer case. The RST-only Sport Performance Package issues the 6.2-liter V8 engine, Magnetic Ride Control, and a dual exhaust system with twin polished stainless-steel tips. The Off-Road Capability Package for the Z71 adds Magnetic Ride Control along with an adaptive air suspension and an electronic limited-slip differential. The Advanced Technology Package for the Premier and High Country includes Super Cruise semi-automated hands-free driving, enhanced automatic emergency braking, and reverse automatic braking. In the Premier, it also has a surround-view camera, a head-up display, a rear camera mirror with a built-in washer, and rear pedestrian alert.

The High Country Deluxe Package will add the contents of the Max Trailering Package, in addition to a panoramic sunroof, an adaptive air suspension, and power-retractable side steps with illuminated perimeter lighting. Many of those high-level features are also available for the less expensive trims as individual add-ons. One highlight among the standalone options is the rear entertainment system with dual 12.6-inch display screens, which can be added to all but the LS.
