All five Colorado trims – WT (Work Truck), LT, Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2 – work off the same 2.7L Turbo four-cylinder engine, but the powerplant is tuned differently depending on the edition. The 2.7L Turbo makes 237 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft of torque in the WT and LT. The 2.7L TurboMax engine, which produces 310 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. of torque, is included with the Trail Boss and above and optional on the WT and LT. Four-wheel drive (4WD) is standard with the Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2 and optional on WT and LT, which otherwise have rear-wheel drive (RWD). An eight-speed automatic transmission is the sole gearbox for the 2024 Colorado.
All Colorados are built with a crew cab and a 61.7-inch cargo bed. The base engine enables a 3,500-pound towing capacity, which increases to a class-leading 7,700 pounds with the TurboMax (6,000 pounds for the ZR2 and ZR2 Bison). The EPA-estimated fuel economy for most 2024 Colorado trims ranges from 17 to 20 mpg around town and 22 to 24 mpg on the open road, depending on the engine and trim. The Colorado ZR2 is rated for 17 mpg in both city and highway driving, which changes to 16 mpg for the ZR2 Bison.
The WT offers more than enough standard equipment to get the job done. This entry-level Colorado has one-zone climate control, fabric upholstery, remote keyless entry, push-button start, automatic headlights, power side mirrors, rear privacy glass, and a 60/40-split folding rear seat. An 8-inch driver information display, a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, a four-way manually adjustable front passenger seat, a manual-tilt steering column, two USB ports, and 17-inch steel wheels are also part of the WT’s equipment roster. The LT adds a remote-locking tailgate, proximity keyless entry, a wrapped steering wheel, a front center console, rear air vents, body-color exterior accents, a second-row USB port, and 17-inch aluminum wheels.
The Trail Boss brings together the WT’s features and some of the LT’s extras, like a front center console, rear air vents, a remote-locking tailgate, and remote keyless entry. It also gets some off-road-friendly equipment such as a 2-inch factory-installed lift kit, a two-speed transfer case, wheel flares, and 18-inch gloss-black aluminum wheels with 32-inch all-terrain tires. The Z71 goes a few steps further with proximity keyless entry, upholstery that mixes Evotex with fabric, LED exterior lighting with projector-style headlights, a sliding rear window with integrated defogger, heated power side mirrors, trim-specific exterior treatments, two second-row USB ports, and dual 120-volt outlets.
The ZR2 expands on the Z71’s capabilities with DSSV Multimatic shock absorbers, a 3-inch factory lift, a wider stance with exclusive fender flares, an off-road front fascia and rear bumper, a spray-on bedliner, and 17-inch aluminum wheels with 33-inch mud terrain tires. Its other premium features include dual-zone automatic climate control, an eight-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, an upgraded tailgate (with easier opening/closing and built-in storage), an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a tilt and telescopic steering column, remote start, and an 11-inch driver information display. The ZR2 Bison package, which makes this trim a true powerhouse of the trails, is extensive. Some of the upgrades include an AEV heavy-duty winch-capable front bumper, an AEV rear bumper, AEV fender flares, front and rear jounce control dampers, Boron steel skid plates and rocker protectors, power-locking front and rear differentials, unique interior and exterior treatments, and AEV 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels with 35-inch mud/terrain tires.
Chevy Safety Assist is standard with every 2024 Colorado and provides forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, forward pedestrian braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, following distance indicator, and automatic high beams. Available upgrades include blind-zone steering assist, rear cross-traffic braking, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view monitor, and rear pedestrian alert. The Z71 and ZR2 are eligible to add underbody cameras that are viewable through the infotainment display. Every Colorado also gets an array of airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, and a rearview monitor. The Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2 also have hill descent control.
Infotainment for all 2024 Colorados is served through an 11.3-inch touchscreen system based on Google built-in technology. It has wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and access to OnStar/Chevrolet Connected Services (for emergency help, vehicle monitoring, and remote features). All trims get a six-speaker audio system, which can be upgraded to an optional seven-speaker Bose arrangement in the LT, Z71, and ZR2.
