If you’re going Suburban shopping, you’ll have these six trims to choose from: LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. The standard 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine (in the LS, LT, RST, Z71, and Premier) pumps out 355 horsepower and 383 pounds-feet of torque. A Duramax 3.0-liter turbo-diesel making 277 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque comes standard on the High Country and is an option for all trims except the Z71. The Z71 can upgrade to a 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 (420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque), as can the RST, Premier, and High Country. All three powerplants pair with a ten-speed automatic transmission; rear-wheel drive is standard with four-wheel drive an option on all but the Z71, which gets standard 4WD. With a configuration of RWD, the 5.3-liter V8, and the available Max Trailering Package, the Suburban can tow up to 8,300 pounds.
The most efficient powertrain is the available diesel, which is rated by the EPA to achieve 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway (with RWD). Four-wheel drive drops the ratings by 1 mpg. The base 5.3-liter V8 returns an estimated 15 city/20 highway, while four-wheel drive drops that highway rating by 2 mpg. With the 6.2-liter V8, the city rating is the same across the board at 14 mpg, but the highway rating varies between 20 (RWD) and 18 (4WD).
The LS has cloth seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, six USB ports (two per row), rain-sensing windshield wipers, a 10-way power-driver’s seat, a 4.2-inch driver information center display, remote start, a 12-volt power outlet, two 120-volt power outlets, a 60/40 split-folding third-row bench seat, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, black assist steps, heated power outside mirrors, roof-mounted side rails, and 18-inch Bright Silver aluminum wheels. The available Interior Protection Package adds all-weather floor mats, an all-weather cargo mat, and all-weather floor liners across all three rows.
The LT adds heated front seats, leather-appointed seating, a 12-inch driver information center display, wireless device charging, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal home remote, and a hands-free power liftgate. The Luxury Package will furnish a heated steering wheel, second-row outboard heated seats, a third-row power-folding bench seat, extra safety equipment (detailed below), position memory (driver’s seat, steering column, and outside mirrors), and heated power-folding, power-adjustable side mirrors with integrated turn indicators. The LT Signature Package contains everything from the Luxury Package along with a panoramic power sunroof and 20-inch polished-aluminum wheels.
The RST includes perforated leather seats and 22-inch gloss-black machined wheels. The Sport Performance Package can be added for the 6.2-liter V8 engine, dual polished stainless-steel exhaust tips, and Magnetic Ride Control. The Z71 is equipped for off-road travel with red recovery hooks, a performance front skid plate, black tubular assist steps, and 20-inch Technical Gray aluminum wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. The Off-Road Capability Package adds magnetic ride control, an air-ride adaptive suspension, and an electronic limited-slip differential, while the Off-Road Performance Package contains the 6.2-liter V8 engine and dual polished stainless-steel exhaust tips.
The Premier raises the comfort stakes with perforated leather upholstery, 12-way power-adjustable front seats that are heated and ventilated, heated second-row outboard seats, a heated steering wheel, and 20-inch polished aluminum wheels. The High Country adds a 15-inch head-up display and 22-inch Sterling Silver premium wheels. It can be ordered with the High Country Deluxe Package for a panoramic power sunroof, an air-ride adaptive suspension, and power-retractable assist steps with lighting.
All Surburban trims come with three year of OnStar remote access and the Chevy Safety Assist technology suite, which consists of automated emergency braking, forward collision alert, a following distance indicator, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear seat reminder, GM’s Teen Driver software, front and rear park assist, and an HD rear-vision camera. The Driver Alert Package is an option that adds lane change alert, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The LT, RST, Z71, and Premier are eligible for HD Surround Vision and rear pedestrian alert. The RST, Premier, and High Country qualify for optional enhanced automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
The Premier and High Country get a standard safety alert seat (for haptic notification of potential obstacles), lane change alert, side blind-zone alert, and rear cross-traffic alert with an available Enhanced Display and Alert Package for a surround-view camera and rear pedestrian alert. They can also add the Advanced Technology Package for reverse automatic braking, enhanced automatic emergency braking, and Super Cruise hands-free driving. The High Country is upgraded with standard enhanced automatic emergency braking, rear pedestrian alert, and a surround-view monitor.
The LS has an 8-inch touchscreen Infotainment 3 system with voice recognition, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 6-speaker sound system. The LT, RST, and Z71 upgrade to the 10.2-inch Infotainment 3 Premium system, which has enhanced voice recognition, navigation, HD Radio, and a 9-speaker Bose sound system. The Premier and High Country indulge their passengers with a 10-speaker premium Bose surround sound system.
