The ‘26 Equinox gives its buyers a choice of three trims: LT, RS, and ACTIV. Each of them is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (output: 175 horsepower and 203 lb.-ft. of torque). A front-wheel drivetrain (FWD) and a continuously variable transmission are standard, but all-wheel drive (AWD) and an 8-speed automatic transmission are available across the full lineup. Every trim gets a drive-mode selector with settings for Snow/Ice and Normal; AWD models also get an Off-Road mode. The adventure-ready ACTIV further enhances the driving experience with a sport-tuned suspension and all-terrain tires. The Equinox with FWD has been rated to return an EPA-estimated 26 mpg around town and 28 mpg on the open road, which changes to 24 city/29 highway with AWD. All trims with AWD have a towing limit of 1,500 pounds.
The LT is nicely equipped with remote start, keyless entry, heated front bucket seats, a heated steering wheel, LED headlights and taillights, and 17-inch Grazen metallic machined-face aluminum wheels, heated power-adjustable side mirrors (manually folding), cloth upholstery, an 11-inch driver information center, four USB ports (two front/two rear), and a 12-volt power outlet. It’s also the only trim eligible for the Midnight Edition package, which will add 19-inch black-painted aluminum wheels, a black grille, black bowtie emblems, gloss-black mirror caps, and black roof rails.
The appearance-driven RS has 19-inch Carbon Flash metallic machined-face aluminum wheels with blackwall all-season tires, a gloss-black grille, a unique lower fascia, high-gloss black mirror caps, roof rails, and black exterior accents and emblems. This trim also gets Rainsense windshield wipers, a heated wiper park, an AutoSense hands-free liftgate, leatherette upholstery with Torch Red or Santorini Blue stitching, RS-embossed front head restraints, an 8-way power driver’s seat, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a wireless charging pad, and a universal home remote. The ACTIV is ruggedly styled with Maple Sugar-colored sueded microfiber upholstery with ACTIV embroidered on the front head restraints, all-terrain blackwall tires on 17-inch Dark Android machined-face aluminum wheels, and roof-mounted side rails.
The highest level of safety doesn’t require an upgrade onboard the 2026 Equinox, as all trims are equipped with Chevy Safety Assist. Those features consist of a following distance indicator, forward collision alert, enhanced automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian and bicyclist braking, lane keeping assist with lane departure warning, and auto high beams. Adaptive cruise control is also standard, along with blind-zone steering assist, side bicyclist alert, intersection automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic braking, reverse automatic braking, rear park assist, an HD rear vision camera, and occupant presence detection so that no person or pet is left behind inadvertently. GM’s safety alert seat, which provides directional vibration cues to help alert the driver of potential hazards, is included as well, along with Teen Driver technology for customizable safety measures to help newly licensed drivers develop good habits behind the wheel.
Every ‘26 Equinox comes well-appointed with a Google built-in multimedia system. Its standard components include an 11.3-inch touchscreen, voice recognition, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi hotspot access with 5G vehicle connectivity, and access to OnStar services and SiriusXM satellite radio. The system’s sound comes via a 6-speaker audio setup.
