2026 Chevrolet Equinox vs. Competitors

2026 Chevrolet
Equinox vs. Competitors

For more than 20 years, the Equinox has held its own in the crowded compact crossover segment. Its fourth generation began with a 2025 redesign, highlighted by Chevy pickup-inspired styling (i.e., a chiseled body and geometric wheel designs) and expanded standard features. For model year 2026, the Equinox continues its reign as the strongest-selling non-truck in Chevrolet’s lineup. That said, the Equinox is far from the only choice on the market. To see how it compares against the competition, we’ve stacked it against two long-time rivals, the Ford Escape and Nissan Rogue. Unless we state otherwise, all of our comparisons involve the least expensive all-wheel-drive (AWD) trims from the 2026 model year.

Pricing and Depreciation

With an MSRP of $30,800, the Equinox LT AWD sits in the middle of the pack, but it’s still only about $300 more than the Rogue S AWD ($30,490). At $31,750, the Escape Active AWD is the most expensive of the group.

One inescapable reality of car ownership is depreciation – although vehicles lose value at different rates. Among the three models compared here, the Equinox has the lowest three-year depreciation rate – 23.9% – according to iSeeCars. The Rogue drops by 28.3% over the same period, followed closely by the Escape at 28.9%. After five years, the Equinox depreciates by 45.7%, compared to 44.9% for the Rogue. The Escape has the worst five-year depreciation rate at 47.5%.

Maintenance Costs

Keeping your car in good running condition with oil changes, tire changes, and other maintenance is another cost that can be overlooked. Over five years and an average of 15,000 miles annually, Edmunds estimates that the Equinox has the lowest maintenance costs at $4,503. Expenses are listed at $4,689 for the Escape and $5,706 for the Rogue (that’s more than 25% above the Equinox).

Powertrain and Standard Amenities

All three vehicles rely on turbocharging to maximize performance and efficiency, but only the Equinox has four cylinders: the Escape and Rogue rely on three-cylinder power. Meanwhile, the Chevy and Ford use eight-speed automatic transmissions, while the Rogue has a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Even the least-expensive Equinox trim comes with a surprising number of standard features, including equipment that costs extra or isn't available on the comparable trims of the rivals. This impressive list starts with standard heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. To get these wintertime comfort features, Escape buyers would have to spend more to add the Cold Weather Package, while Rogue buyers would have to shell out for a more expensive trim.

On the safety and convenience side, only the base Equinox comes with adaptive cruise control, rear parking sensors, integrated navigation, and remote start. It also has a standard 11-inch infotainment touchscreen, compared to 8-inch units for the entry-level Escape and Rogue.

Reviews

Consumers on Edmunds give the Equinox an overall rating of 4.1 out of 5. The Escape and Rogue trail with scores of 3.9 and 3.8, respectively. At the same time, Parents.com recognized the Equinox in two categories, starting with Best Value SUV. The website touted the “rugged new body” and “better-configured space” of the fourth generation. It also made their list of Best Mid-Sized 5-Passenger SUVs. One quote says it all: “The thing we love the most is what Chevy delivers for the price.” The Escape and Rogue failed to rise to the top in a similar way.
