If you’ve missed the tried-and-true Bolt, you’ll be pleased to know that Chevrolet will soon resurrect it. This reborn Bolt will show up in the first quarter of 2026 as an early bird for the 2027 model year, boasting a few critical improvements. A decade out from this nameplate’s debut, it will remain affordable, with a base MSRP below $30,000, while also supplying better charging accessibility and a bit more range.

Chevy introduced the original Bolt in 2017, and it enjoyed a strong run before its 2023 discontinuation. The reimagined 2027 Bolt should make a splash with updated technology, an expanded lineup, and a modernized appearance. GM credits the nameplate’s return to positive feedback from its loyal customer base and a demand for affordable EVs. The original Bolt was one of the first widely accessible and affordable long-range EVs, and the new version will carry on that mantle, offering the most range in its segment (EVs with a starting MSRP under $30,000). The new Bolt will be Chevy’s first-ever EV with a native North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, giving it a practicality edge by expanding its nationwide charging station network. Its upgraded infotainment suite will offer a larger dual-screen layout, with Google built-in plus streaming capabilities for in-vehicle entertainment when it’s parked. The revised exterior and attractive color choices will add an appealing freshness. Chevrolet anticipates the 2027 Bolt to arrive at dealerships in early 2026.

Power and Performance

The 2027 Bolt will be outfitted with GM’s X76 electric drive unit, with a permanent-magnet motor that’s expected to make 210 horsepower. Chevrolet estimates a 255-mile drive range on a full charge, with increased efficiency thanks to regenerative braking and one-pedal driving. Look for charging speeds of 2.5 times that of the Bolt’s predecessor (an automaker-estimated 26 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent with DC fast charging up to 150 kW). The Bolt will also be capable of vehicle-to-home bidirectional power distribution, allowing it to act as a power source when it’s paired with the GM Energy Home System.

Trims and Design

The lineup will retain its base LT trim, joined by the model’s first-ever RS grade, which will add a sport-inspired look with gloss-black elements, 17-inch aluminum wheels, a restyled front fascia, and a grille that sits a bit lower. In typical RS fashion, trim-specific badging, black roof rails, and black wheels will finish the look. The standard color palette will bring back Bolt mainstays Summit White, Mosaic Black Metallic, and Sterling Gray Metallic, joined by new hues called Habanero Orange and Marina Blue Metallic, plus an exclusive shade for each trim: Relic Green Metallic for the LT and Atomic Yellow for the RS. The reimagined Bolt will have roughly the same footprint as before, measuring 169.6 inches long and 80.1 inches wide. The rear hatch opening will measure 25.6 inches from top to bottom, and an under-floor storage compartment will add four cubic feet of concealed cargo capacity.

Updated Amenities and Technology

The LT will get cloth upholstery while the RS is upgraded with Evotex simulated leather. Heated and ventilated seats will be available, as will a heated steering wheel. The cockpit will center on dual displays. The 11-inch digital instrument cluster will be a significant upgrade over the outgoing 8-inch gauge display, complemented by an 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, which is over an inch larger than its predecessor. Google built-in will come standard, providing access to Google Assistant and Google Maps; wireless smartphone charging will be available. A multi-color ambient lighting system will also be available, and the center console will have an open design, free of controls, thanks to the new column shifter.

Safety and Driver-Assistance

Drivers can expect more than 20 standard safety amenities in the 2027 Bolt, according to its manufacturer. So far, GM has confirmed that adaptive cruise control, front and rear park assist, rear cross-traffic braking, front pedestrian and bicyclist braking, enhanced automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, blind-zone steering assist, forward collision alert, side bicyclist alert, intersection automatic emergency braking, reverse automatic braking, a safety alert seat, rear seat reminder, a rear vision camera, and Intellibeam automatic high beam assist will be among them. Other confirmed standard safety technology will include GM’s Teen Driver and Buckle-to-Drive. Also available on the Bolt will be GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driver-assistance suite, as well as traffic sign recognition, rear pedestrian alert, driver attention assist, and 360-degree HD Surround Vision.
