To the delight of ‘vette aficionados, Chevrolet is a planning a 2027 revival of the Corvette Grand Sport, one of the nameplate’s longest-running performance badges. The original Grand Sport began in the early 1960s as a run of five C2 race cars, and subsequent street versions were built on that idea by pulling hardware and styling cues from higher-performance Corvettes. For the new generation, Chevrolet will offer a pair of versions: the rear-wheel-drive Grand Sport and the all-wheel-drive Grand Sport X. Both will be available as a removable-roof coupe or hardtop convertible, with production scheduled to begin this summer at GM’s Bowling Green Assembly plant in Kentucky.

New LS6 V8

Both Grand Sport versions will use Chevrolet’s next-generation LS6 6.7-liter V8. The naturally aspirated engine will produce 535 horsepower and 520 lb.-ft. of torque, with output routed through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Chevrolet says that the engine’s larger 409-cubic-inch displacement, 13.0:1 compression ratio, 95-mm throttle body, and tunnel-ram intake will help improve response and airflow.

Chevy engineers have also focused on long-term ownership and enhanced durability. This innovative powerplant will use a new lubrication system, forged pistons and rods, and revised exhaust manifolds for high-load, high-temperature driving.

Grand Sport: Rear-Wheel-Drive Focus

The standard Grand Sport will keep the classic Corvette layout with RWD and the LS6 mounted behind the cockpit. Magnetic Ride Control will be standard, paired with a touring suspension and Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires.

For drivers who want more track focus, the Z52 Sport Performance Package will add a stiffer suspension tune, Performance Traction Management, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires, and high-performance J56 iron brakes borrowed from the Z06. The available Z52 Track Performance Package will go further with carbon-ceramic J57 brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires, track-focused chassis tuning, a carbon aero package, underbody strakes, and a quad center-exit exhaust.

Grand Sport X: Electric Assist and AWD

The Grand Sport X will add an electric motor to the front axle, creating an electronic all-wheel-drive (eAWD) setup with a combined 721 horsepower. Chevrolet says the front motor will add 145 lb.-ft. of torque to the total output, but they haven’t yet released its 0–to–60 mph time.

The high-voltage battery will sit low and near the center of the car. On the track, the Grand Sport X will offer three power strategies: Endurance, Qualifying, and Push-to-Pass. The Grand Sport X will also include electric-only Stealth mode up to 50 mph and Shuttle mode for non-street use up to 23 mph. Magnetic Ride Control, carbon-ceramic brakes, and Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires will be standard, with an optional Performance Package adding Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

Heritage Design

The 2027 Grand Sport lineup will feature several tributes to earlier versions. Signature hash marks will return, but for this mid-engine generation, they’ll move to the rear of the car. Admiral Blue Metallic will also come back, offering the familiar blue body, white center stripe, and red hash-mark look.

A Launch Edition will add a Santorini Blue-Dipped interior with red stitching and accents. Chevrolet will also offer multiple stripe and hash-mark color combinations, unique 10-spoke forged aluminum wheels, available carbon-fiber wheels, and a new Pitch Gray Metallic exterior color.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The standard driver-assist technology will include forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, intersection automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian and bicyclist braking, IntelliBeam automatic high beams, and rear park assist. A digital rearview mirror and HD Rear Vision Camera will also be standard. Available features will include side blind-zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, and HD Front and Rear Vision Cameras with front curb view.
