2027 Chevrolet
Silverado 1500 Preview

Chevy truck enthusiasts will have a lot to look forward to in the 2027 model year, when the upcoming Silverado kicks off the iconic nameplate’s fifth generation. A restyled front end, refreshed headlight and taillight designs, and a strong stance will give this latest Silverado a fresh appearance that will complement its new powertrain components. Updated technology will tie the package together, with a redesigned cabin that offers 60-plus inches of available screen space, highlighted by a new passenger-side display.

The restructured lineup will drop the RST and LTZ and remove the LT name, rebranding the outgoing LT as the “Silverado,” and creating a stand-alone Trail Boss grade. Model year 2027 will also bring in a few Silverado firsts: the upscale High Country’s panoramic sunroof will be the first to come standard in a Silverado, while the trail-oriented ZR2 will be the first GM vehicle with forged carbon-fiber interior detailing. Like its predecessor, the next Silverado will continue to provide high capability for whatever its drivers need, backed by fresh looks, hardware, and technology.

Powertrains

Buyers of the 2027 Silverado will have a choice of four powerplants. All-new 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter V8s will replace the outgoing 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter versions, and while their output has not been confirmed, Chevrolet expects the larger of the two newcomers to be the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class. The standard 2.7-liter four-cylinder TurboMax will undergo slight revisions and should retain its segment-leading torque output (430 lb.-ft. on the 2026 model) but will upgrade from its previous eight-speed transmission to the same ten-speed automatic used by the other engines. Chevy’s class-exclusive 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel, which boasts a best-in-class highway fuel economy rating of 28 mpg on the current (2026) Silverado, will return unchanged.

Trims, Design, and Furnishings

The next-generation Silverado will present a streamlined lineup, reduced from nine trims to seven with the discontinuation of the RST and LTZ. The mid-grade LT will be renamed Silverado, while the sophisticated yet rugged LT Trail Boss will drop “LT” from its name. Otherwise, the Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, High Country, and ZR2 will return, giving buyers a wide range of options suited to the jobsite, the backcountry, and everything in between. The redesigned exterior will adopt a powerful stance accentuated by prominent wheel moldings and rocker panels. New two-part signature LED headlights will highlight the squared-off front end, extending lower than their predecessors to fully frame the new grille, while updated LED taillights will sharpen the rear styling beneath a high-mounted center brake light.

The Work Truck will retain its position as the utilitarian, task-oriented base model built for commercial and fleet use, although Chevrolet has released little information regarding its 2027 updates. The versatile Custom will keep its 20-inch wheels but trade Bright Silver paint for a Technical Gray machine finish. Dual exhaust outlets, a feature previously reserved for the High Country and ZR2, will also extend to the Custom and all higher trims. The Custom Trail Boss will keep off-roading accessible with its standard 2-inch lift kit, while the rebranded Silverado trim will make the formerly optional Z71 Off-Road Package standard on the 4WD version.

The renamed Trail Boss will receive a new flat-bottomed steering wheel and the same Torch Red interior accents as the high-performance ZR2. The luxury-focused High Country will grab everyone’s attention with an exclusive Tritan Satin grille and new 22-inch After Midnight wheels. The ZR2’s interior will gain new Torch Red-accented seat belts and other elements and will be the first GM vehicle to have genuine, forged carbon-fiber detailing. The ZR2’s Bison Edition will continue to add heavy-duty bumpers, steel underbody protection, and beadlock-capable wheels developed in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles. Chevrolet is touting the 2027 Silverado ZR2, the model’s top-ranking trim, as the most capable off-road Silverado to date. This range-topper will carry over its standard Multimatic DSSV suspension with jounce dampers, but it will ride on new 35-inch off-road tires.

Driver-Assistance and Safety

While Chevrolet has not yet declared all of the 2027 Silverado’s safety features, the truck is expected to have an extensive version of the Chevy Safety Assist suite, including automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, a following distance indicator, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, and IntelliBeam automatic headlights. Other safety technologies, such as GM’s Teen Driver and Buckle-to-Drive settings, are also sure to carry over. Chevrolet’s Super Cruise with Trailering, the industry’s only hands-free driver assistance for towing, will be available on the higher end of the lineup.

Technology and Infotainment

The cabin will be tech-focused, centered on a class-leading 16.3-inch infotainment display; it’s more than twice the size of the 2026 model’s standard 7-inch touchscreen and nearly 3 inches larger than the available 13.4-inch display. The entire lineup will also get a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a significant improvement over the current standard 3.5-inch driver information display. The upscale High Country and trail-ready ZR2 will debut an 11.5-inch screen for the front passenger that will form the right side of a full-dash display; a digital rearview mirror and head-up display will be available. The higher trims should also include wireless smartphone charging and a reconfigurable Multi-Flex center console that slides for versatile storage and folds flat to create a work surface.

Based on the 2026 Silverado’s multimedia system, buyers should look for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Like its predecessor, the next-generation Silverado will come with eight years of GM’s OnStar Basics package, which includes integrated voice assistance, real-time onboard navigation, remote commands, automatic crash response, and in-vehicle apps.
