2026 Chevrolet Trax

2026 Chevrolet
Trax

The Trax has garnered a lot of attention lately for its undeniable quality and value. It’s a standout choice for drivers on a budget who require both utility and space without a bulky footprint or a fuel-thirsty engine. This relatively basic model still has available amenities such as heated seats, an 11-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a sunroof, as well as a range of elective packages to further customize a chosen trim. Despite its subcompact status, the Trax offers similar utility as larger vehicles, thanks to its 25.60 cubic feet of cargo space at full occupancy (54.1 cu. ft. behind the first row), 38.7 inches of second-row leg room, and 7.3 inches of ground clearance.

In a change for 2026, Chevy has added the Midnight Edition Package for the mid-range LT; this option adds black exterior elements (the grille, fasciae, exterior mirrors, roof rails, and alloy wheels) for a distinctive statement look. The rest of the lineup gets a few new exterior color options, with Apex Red replacing Crimson Metallic on the LS, 1RS, LT, and 2RS, while White Sands ousts Nitro Yellow Metallic from the palette for the 1RS, 2RS, and Activ.

Trims and Powertrain

Buyers of the 2026 Trax will get to choose from five trim levels: LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and Activ. Their efficient turbocharged ECOTEC 1.2-liter engine makes 137 horsepower and forms the powertrain with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Every Trax has a front-wheel drivetrain and achieves an EPA-estimated 28 mpg in city driving and 32 mpg on the highway. Cruise control is standard, as is automatic start/stop, and the entire lineup rides on MacPherson front struts and a compound rear crank suspension.

Standard Features

The low-cost LS gets a good mix of features, including remote keyless entry, cloth seats, single-zone manual climate control, a 3.5-inch driver information display, a manual day/night rearview mirror, two USB ports, a 12-volt auxiliary power outlet, power windows, power-adjustable exterior mirrors, LED Intellibeam headlights with auto-on/off, LED daytime running lights, a high-mounted stop/brake light, tinted rear glass, a front center console with an armrest, a rear spoiler, a capless fuel filler, a front recovery hook, a 60/40-split folding rear seatback, and 17-inch steel wheels. The 1RS gets fancy with heated front seats, a heated flat-bottomed steering wheel, remote start, heated exterior mirrors, sporty front and rear lower fasciae, a black grille, and 18-inch machined aluminum wheels. The LT drops the heated seats and heated steering wheel but upgrades to a blend of cloth and Evotex upholstery, single-zone automatic climate control, an 8-inch digital instrument display, two rear USB ports (four total), a cargo cover, roof rails, and 17-inch gray-machined aluminum wheels. The 2RS brings back the comfort of the heated steering wheel and heated seats, while boasting full Evotex upholstery, an 8-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, and 19-inch black-machined aluminum wheels. The Activ receives everything found on the 2RS, wrapped up in a rugged package with a body-color grille, trim-exclusive badging, titanium exterior accents, and 18-inch black aluminum wheels.

The LS Convenience Package is offered to enhance the base trim with heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, remote start, and 17-inch aluminum wheels. The Sunroof Package adds just its namesake item on the 1RS, while the LT, 2RS, and Activ get wireless smartphone charging along with the power sunroof. The LT Convenience Package outfits the LT with heated front seats, a wrapped heated steering wheel, keyless open, and heated exterior mirrors. The Blackout Package adds black exterior badging to the LS and LT, while the Midnight Edition Package – available only on the LT – complements the dark emblems with a black grille bar, lower fasciae, mirror caps, roof rails, and 17-inch high-gloss black alloy wheels.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Every 2026 Trax is equipped with automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, StabiliTrak stability control with traction control, forward collision alert, following distance indicator, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, buckle-to-Drive technology, rear seat reminder, and an HD rearview camera. Also included is GM’s Teen Driver technology, which activates safety systems when the designated Teen key fob is in use, mutes the audio until the driver and front passenger have fastened their seatbelts, and encourages safe driving habits by providing feedback via a “report card” that parents can review with their young drivers to encourage good habits. The Driver Confidence Package adds rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane change alert with side blind-zone alert to all Trax trims; the LT, 2RS, and Activ also get adaptive cruise control within this optional bundle.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Trax’s base infotainment suite comes with an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity for two devices, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a four-speaker audio system with active noise cancellation. The LT and higher trims upgrade to an 11-inch touchscreen with voice command and a six-speaker sound system. Access to OnStar, GM’s safety and connectivity suite, is available on every Trax trim, and OnStar Basics comes standard, providing remote commands, built-in voice assistance, real-time traffic and navigation, and automatic crash response.
