The continuously variable transmission (CVT) has never been particularly popular, aside from its ability to help a particular vehicle model achieve better fuel efficiency than it could with a traditional geared transmission. Well, Chevrolet has made a move that will please drivers who don’t care for the CVT: the company has axed it from the front-wheel drive version of the Equinox, in favor of the same eight-speed automatic found in the AWD Equinox. And there’s no compromise, since the fuel economy rating of 26 mpg city and 29 mpg highway remains the same.
In other changes for this midsized crossover this year, a couple of the optional bundles have undergone minor updates. A rear camera washer has been added to the Safety and Technology Package, which every trim is eligible for, and the Convenience Package II for the LT now has Evotex simulated leather upholstery. In the paint category, Autumn Harvest Metallic has ousted Cacti Green for the LT and ACTIV’s exterior color choices.
